Who Inspires You

This morning I have been reflecting about the horrible attack on Paris and the people there. It is with a heavy heart I pray for France and all those suffering. This brings me to my next thought of today, who inspires you to be a better person?

Tragedies almost always have us in a state of reflection and concern. More often we take the small things for granted and do not let our loved ones know how much they truly mean to us. We never know when it could be our time and only a higher power (whatever you may or may not believe in) knows when it is our time to leave. I have been blessed that my mother always taught me to love even when I am mad at someone. She always told me to explain I may be mad or upset with you, but I have not stopped loving you. Every time I get off the phone with a family member we always end the call with I love you. This has even rubbed off with some of my closest friends.

Here’s a little shout out to my closest, thanks for being there for me in some of my most craziest times and sticking by my side.

Think about who inspires you to be a better person, work harder, be more dedicated, try new things, and in return just show them how much they mean to you. A simple I love you or thank you might do the job. Stay safe and be the best version of yourself.

Coffee Makes All Things Possible

Shhhh…. I haven’t had my coffee yet. You probably might not want to talk to me in the morning before I’ve had my coffee (you’ve probably heard that one before). Many of us depend on that morning cup of joe to wake us to start the day or keep us going throughout the day. I can agree with this. I keep strange hours, but I really do enjoy a GOOD (emphasis on good) cup of coffee in the morning or even as an afternoon pick me up sometimes. Want to know what I’ve been drinking lately? Well I’m going to share anyway!

So in my travels I like to pick up local products, like coffee! So I’m going to share some of the beans I have in rotation at the moment. First, and probably my most favorite (right now) comes from Dallmayr a store in Munich, Germany. I have the prodomo. I brought it home in this cute little tin that helps to keep it fresh.

Next up, the Jo’s Blend made by Stumptown I grabbed in Austin, Texas. I love this little stand called Jo’s at the downtown congress location. You probably would recognize the building by seeing this picture.

This iconic spot in Austin where so many tourist take pictures (yes, I’m one of them too! haha). Stumptown coffee is actually from Portland, but this is the Jo blend/collaboration, fancy, yes! My favorite thing to get at Jo’s in the afternoon is the Iced Turbo! This is a pick you up and get you moving for the rest of the day (coffee, espresso, chocolate, hazelnut goodness)! FullSizeRender (3)

Lastly, I’ve been using the signature blend from Charleston Coffee Roasters! Over the Summer I was on a little getaway with my Momma when we ended up meeting the gentleman that roasts all the coffee for Charleston Coffee Roasters. The signature blend is a little bit on the weaker side for me, but it is very smooth! So I don’t need to put much sugar or cream in this. If your looking for something not as bold this should be your go to!

So now your probably wondering what exactly do I use to sweeten my coffee. Am I right? Or am I right? Sugars-I try to use sugar in the raw or organic stevia, whatever I can get my hands on at the moment. If you check my work bags I keep a stash in my bag!!! As for creamer, I tend to switch it up, between soy creamer, almond milk, or just recently, I have been trying out Trader Joe’s Coconut Creamer! So far, I’m loving it, low calorie and not overly sweet! FullSizeRender

Whatever you like make sure you enjoy every sip! I’m not much of a morning person, I’m a coffee person! Until tomorrows cup, have a great day!

Kombucha! What is it?

Hello Everyone! Flying has been a little slow and with the winter months not far away  (which includes all those holidays focused around food) I’m really trying to improve what I’m putting into my body. I’ve been running and attending kickboxing classes, trying to stay active so my body looks and feel great all year long. So kombucha, what is it??? And how does it taste?

Kombucha is a tea thats fermented that contains bacteria and yeast that has major health benefits (i’m not going into all the gross details of how its exactly made)! It has most recently become popular in the US and can be obtained at most health food stores (like Whole Foods Market). I’ve had them here and there and after doing more research into them decided I want to drink them more often. They have different flavors, but it is really all about the health benefits.

1-Dextoification-Helps to detox the body (especially the liver)

2-Joint Care-Helps against arthritis (great for anyone!)

3-Digestion-Healthy probiotics for your tummy! Who doesn’t want better digestion?

4-Anti-oxidants-Immune system booster!!! Yay!

Soooooo….the big question, what does it taste like??? It is sort of fizzy and it does have a slight vinegar taste. I really suggest you give it a chance before you totally pass it off and these different flavors help to mask the total vinegar taste. I like to make sure mine is very cold when I drink it, because it kind of reminds me of soda, who likes to drink warm soda? (gross!). Hope this was helpful!! Stay happy and healthy!

November’s Outlook

Wow. I’ve been out of touch for a little too long!! Summer seemed to fly by and now fall is almost over. Quick life update: still flying, still working a part time job, still working out and finding time for family and friends. My momma’s birthday was in October and we went to a fun wine tasting event before dinner.

This September I went down to Nashville, TN for my second year residency for my doctorate and my concept passed!!! Woo Hoo!!! I was super nervous about that!! I can officially start working on my dissertation, but I still have some more classes to take! Bring it on!

On Halloween I ran the Rock and Roll Half Marathon in Philadelphia for the 3rd time. Yay. Fun times, but the course changed and that was a little less exciting. On the fitness front, I more recently have been going to kickboxing classes! Love it!! The instructors are high energy and I leave feeling I put in a full workout when I can look down and see my sweat angel on the mat! (gross, I know). Otherwise, I’ve been trying to be more conscious about what I eat and when I eat it.

Flying has been good to me, its starting to slow down a bit before the holiday rush. I’m on a 4 day trip at the moment and trying to be positive about this ugly trip that I’m on. (just speaking the truth, shuttle flights are the worst).

I’ve been trying to curb shopping sprees. I went to Boston in September to do a little shopping at my favorite UK store Primark that is now in the US.  My old laptop died and had to break down and get a new one!

Just finished flying day 3 and tomorrow starts day 4! A passenger today told me I had a great attitude and that got me thinking. Sometimes we don’t have a great day, but we need to talk about it or cry about and that’s ok. I can get very overwhelmed at times with my schedules. There’s so many options between groups to join, websites that give positive messages, or just talking to someone. Personally, I know sometimes you just have to let it all out to feel better. The way you approach a situation can make all the difference. Sometimes I don’t want to do something, but I use it as a learning experience. You really have to respect your own personal struggle to see the growth. You live and you learn.

Till my next adventure-
